Ochresoft Forest: How many trees have we planted and why it matters

As a technology business, we are conscious that innovation does not sit separately from responsibility. Alongside developing software, we believe there is a role to play in contributing positively to the environment.

At Ochresoft, that thinking has led to the creation of the Ochresoft Forest, an ongoing initiative focused on tree planting, biodiversity, and long-term environmental impact.

How many trees has Ochresoft planted?

To date, we have planted 7,497 trees as part of our wider commitment to sustainability. That’s 7.82 hectares restored, the equivalent of 14 average football pitches, and over 1,300 tonnes of CO₂ captured. Rather than approaching this as a simple offsetting exercise, the aim is to create something lasting, with clear benefits for local ecosystems and communities over time.

Why did Ochresoft create a forest?

“The solutions we develop are designed to deliver long-term value for our customers, helping organisations work more efficiently, make better use of their resources, and plan ahead with greater clarity. The Ochresoft Forest reflects that same approach. Just as we invest in technology that delivers benefits over time, we are also investing in something more tangible, creating an environmental legacy that will continue to grow and support positive change over the years ahead.”

Rob Gurney, Managing Director of Ochresoft

The environmental benefits of tree planting

Tree planting is a simple idea, but the long-term impact can be significant when it is approached consistently over time. These projects span regions including Uganda, Tanzania, Nepal, Madagascar, and beyond, supporting both environmental recovery and local communities.

The impact of this work can be seen in many ways:

Carbon impact

The trees planted as part of the Ochresoft Forest are helping to absorb and store carbon dioxide, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases over their lifetime.

Biodiversity support

By contributing to reforestation projects in different parts of the world, the initiative supports habitats for wildlife and helps restore biodiversity in areas where it is needed.

Air quality improvement

Trees play a role in filtering pollutants and releasing oxygen, contributing to improved air quality both locally and more broadly.

Soil and water protection

Root systems help stabilise soil, reduce erosion, and support natural water cycles, particularly in areas affected by deforestation.

Continuing the initiative

Reflecting on the initiative, Rob said:

“The team at Ochresoft is 100% committed to everything we do. Whether that’s creating software that helps legal professionals work more effectively or supporting environmental projects like the Ochresoft Forest, we take a long-term view. This isn’t about making a one-off contribution. It’s about creating something that grows over time and leaves a positive legacy for future generations.”
