Sustainability September

Sustainability September

Three years ago, the Ochresoft team launched the ‘Forest of Ochresoft’ via Tree-Nation, a platform which fights climate change by planting trees and offsetting CO2 emissions.

Since January 2021, we are proud to have planted5,006 trees across the globe, which equates to reforesting4.9hectares. More than1,146tonnes of CO2 are being captured over the lifetime of the trees.

But, what else can we do to help the environment? And how can you join in?

Sustainability September

September 2024 is a bumper month for sustainability and environmental awareness days.

  • Second Hand September: 1st September – 30th September. This is an annual celebration by Oxfam. By buying second hand, we can reduce waste and our carbon footprint. You could donate to charity shops, run or attend a boot-fair, or conduct a swap-shop in your office.
  • Organic September: 1st September – 30th September. This annual environmental day is led by the Soil Association. Organic farming isn’t just important for our health, but for the planet too – artificial fertilisers are depleting the nutrients we need in our soils to grow food. You could sign the ‘No net zero without fixing fertiliser’ petition on their website.
  • Zero Waste Week: 2nd – 6th September. This award-winning environmental campaign helps and encourages homes, schools, businesses and community groups to find ways on how to reduce waste that is destined for landfill. Check out their website to see how to get involved.
  • World Clean Up Day: 20th September. This global annual litter-picking event had some amazing results in 2023 – 19.1 million participants took part and collected a whopping 205,000 tons of waste! You can create or join a clean-up event via their website.
  • Great British Beach Clean: 20th – 29th September. This initiative encourages people to clean up our beaches. “Litter data collected on beach cleans drives our conservation work, helps us to campaign for change, and also feeds into the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC).” You can join or organise a beach clean via their website.
  • FSC Forest Week: 21st – 27th September. This global annual initiative raises awareness of the significance of sustainable forestry. The objective is to motivate consumers to make a difference by selecting products that carry FSC certification. Details of how to take part and join in will be added to the website soon.
  • World Car Free Day: 22nd September. This annual event, led by Living Streets, promotes and encourages a day of traffic-free roads, with reduced congestion, cleaner air and safer streets. Their website has some examples of how other people travel to celebrate World Car Free Day.
  • World Rivers Day – 22nd September. Held annually Word Rivers Day celebrates our waterways. It focuses on the numerous benefits of our rivers, aims to boost public awareness, and promotes better care of rivers worldwide. Rivers in nearly every nation confront various challenges, and it’s only through our active engagement that we can safeguard their well-being in the future. You can join or organise a river clean-up or other such river activities, via the website.

The Green Revolution

Ochresoft’s Managing Director, Rob Gurney, said:“Ochresoft made a pledge to offset the carbon emissions produced by the business, in a bid to become carbon neutral, and I’m delighted with the progress we have made in just three years. We continue to be deeply committed to driving positive action and being a carbon-negative business.”

Our ‘Forest of Ochresoft’ biodiversity initiative is being completed in partnership with Tree Nation, a program dedicated to reforesting the world. For anyone wishing to plant a tree, pleaseclick here– all donations are gratefully received.
